Winter Solstice Special 60 Minute RELAX *Pay What You Can* (ends 12/31/2024)

This "Winter Solstice" special is my way of supporting you through a period of time that can be difficult for so many. If finances are a barrier to scheduling a massage appointment, use this special! Pay What You Can" runs through the end of 2024.

The "Winter Blues" is a general term for feeling sad or down during the Winter months. It's usually mild and can be caused by shorter days (less sunlight), stressful holidays, or reminders of loved ones who are no longer with us. The Winter Blues typically clears up on its own within a short period of time, which can be a way to differentiate it from other forms of mood changing disorders.

If you're experiencing more serious mood changes that affect your daily life during this time, you might be experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.) S.A.D. is a type of depression that's triggered by a change in seasons, and it can include symptoms like: Social Withdrawal, Increased Sleepiness, Loss of Interest in Activities, Grouchiness, and Feelings of Hopelessness.

Women and young adults are more likely to experience S.A.D. than men and older adults, respectively.

In addition to massage, here are some other ways to help you balance Winter Blues symptoms:

  • Create New Traditions: Try to create new holiday traditions that you can enjoy in the future.
  • Spend Time With Others: Hang out with friends and family, or find a social group to join. Social Connectedness is a key factor in one's overall wellness trajectory, especially Mental Health and Wellness.
  • Bathe in the Sunlight: Sit in a sunny spot for at least one to two hours a day, or break it up into shorter chunks. You can also try light therapy, which involves sitting in front of a light box for 20 to 60 minutes in the morning. #VitaminD

  • Move Your Body: Try to get at least 10-30 minutes of physical activity each day. If you aren't sure where to start, I have a 6 week Wellness series going on right now! We meet three times a week, in person or virtually for Yoga, Step Aerobics, and Mindful Meditation. Join us! Register Here:  https://forms.gle/FfNXdL6cFfiqY6Xx6

Massage for Events and Corporate Wellness (Chair or Table)

Chair massage is a popular way of relieving stress and releasing tension right in your personalized event space. Your guests will receive a massage in a specialized ergonomic chair which I bring to your location. In addition to the usual health benefits of massage, another benefit of chair massage is that it is done over the clothing, with a focus on the upper body (back, neck, arms.) With seated massage, you can avoid any discomfort and awkwardness that a guest may feel from disrobing for a traditional massage. Also, chair massage sessions are usually shorter than traditional massage, making it convenient enough to fit into busy schedules and environments. 5, 10, 15, 20, or 30 minute Chair Massage time intervals are available.

Table Massages offer the complete full body experience and can be customized to meet your event and wellness needs. This offering can be implemented at your event space or our wellness center.

Prices vary and can be itemized per person or per hour depending on event request. Travel and set up costs apply.

Pressure Intensity: Light to Medium Pressure.

All massage sessions include 5 minutes for consultation and transferring to chair.

Prices are subject to change. Pricing does not include tax or gratuity and varies by location and date. All services may not be offered at all locations.

Cupping

  • Cupping therapy dates back thousands of years and has been practiced in many civilizations, including ancient Egypt, China, and Rome. It is an ancient form of complementary medicine that uses negative pressure to create suction on the skin. The suction created is known to help stimulate blood flow, as well as help muscle tension and soreness, pain relief, musculoskeletal injuries, headaches, migraines, and more.
  • Risks - Cupping can cause temporary "bruise-like" skin discoloration and skin infection. Risks are generally low.

Hydrating Steam Mist Treatment (Face, Neck, Shoulders)

Moisturizing Skin Repair  Spa Wraps for Hands and Feet

CBD Balm

Dry Brushing

  • Dry Brushing is an Ayurvedic medicine that has been around for centuries and works by exfoliating the skin. A brush with coarse, natural-fiber bristles will be used over your body in a particular brush stroke pattern. Initially light pressured brushing strokes will be used, and as your tolerance level increases, the pressure can be increased to your comfort level.

  • The idea is that the coarse fibers will help to remove dead skin and improve the skin’s ability to eliminate toxins through the pores.

  • Dry skin brushing benefits may include stimulating the lymphatic system, exfoliating the skin, removing toxins, increasing circulation and energy, and reducing cellulite.

Dry Brushing Recommendations

It is recommended that after your dry brushing experience, you take a cool shower to help remove the dry skin. After your shower, consider adding a natural plant oil, such as olive, avocado, grapeseed or coconut oil to moisturize your skin.

Dry Brushing Precautions

Some people should avoid adding dry brushing or proceed with caution. People with open or inflamed skin, including people with eczema and psoriasis, should avoid dry brushing over the inflamed area. You should also avoid dry brushing over an open wound. Bacteria could be introduced to the wound, which could lead to infection. Make sure you let your massage therapist know of any sensitive, inflamed, or open areas to avoid prior to booking and upon arrival to appointment.

  • Avoid sensitive areas and anywhere the skin is broken; rashes, wounds, cuts, infections.

  • Never brush an area affected by poison oak, poison ivy, or psoriasis, or other irritated skin areas.

  • Don’t dry brush your face unless you’re using a softer brush made for that purpose.

Natural Basalt Volcanic Hot Stones

  • Incorporating hot stones into your massages can be helpful for those seeking relaxation and relief from various medical issues. Some of the most common reasons to introduce hot stones:

    • Stress Relief: The warmth from the stones combined with the gentle pressure applied by your therapist can help to melt away stress, leaving you feeling relaxed and uplifted.

    • Muscle Relaxation: The heat from the stones helps to warm up and relax tight muscles, allowing your therapist to work more deeply and effectively on problem areas. By easing muscle tension and stiffness, hot stone massages can also help to improve flexibility and range of motion.

    • Improved Circulation: The application of hot stones on the skin helps to dilate blood vessels, thereby improving blood flow and promoting overall circulation.

    • Pain Relief: Many people find that the heat from the stones provides relief from chronic pain, such as backaches, arthritis, and fibromyalgia.

    • Enhanced Mental Well-Being: The calming and centering effects of a hot stone massage can help to alleviate anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. This effect can also help to improve sleep quality and duration.

    • Reduced Inflammation: The heat and pressure applied during a hot stone massage can help to reduce inflammation in the body, which can be particularly beneficial for those suffering from conditions such as arthritis.

HOT STONE PRECAUTIONS

While adding hot stones to your massage can be beneficial, it is important to be aware of some associated risks. Here are a few things to consider;

Medications

If you're on blood-thinners (warfarin, coumadin, aspirin, etc.) or any form of medication that induces heat-related side-effects, adding hot stones to your massage may be contraindicated. Consult with your doctor before booking your appointment, or simply avoid the adding them altogether (or until you stop taking the medication and are cleared by your doctor.)

Lack of Sensation

If you have any medical condition that causes a lack of sensation in the body - such as MS, neuropathy (numbness and tingling), diabetes, or high blood pressure (amongst others) you’ll want to avoid adding hot stones to your massage.  It is important for you to be able to feel the heat intensity from the stones on your body. Decreased sensation or lack of sensation can lead to unintended burns.

Suppressed Immune System

If you have a condition that decreases your immune systems ability to fight infection, it’s a good idea to avoid hot stone massages. Conditions that impact your immune system include Epstein Barr disease, cancer, MS, and lupus.

Pregnancy

If you’re pregnant, we do not recommend adding hot stones to your massage. While this form of massage therapy might not be an issue during the early weeks of your pregnancy, it can provoke discomfort for pregnant persons during the later stages of pregnancy.

Skin Conditions

If you have any skin conditions, such as eczema, existing burns, or psoriasis, it is a good rule of thumb to avoid adding hot stones to your massage. The heat can irritate skin conditions, causing discomfort or exacerbating symptoms.

Make sure to consult with a medical professional if you have any ongoing medical conditions described above. You should check in with your doctor for advice if you have any cardiovascular conditions, and be sure to get clearance and approval from your doctor stating that your massage, and any add on treatment enhancement, is safe for you before booking your appointment.
